Most significantly, this area is revered as the birthplace of two towering figures of Assam’s Neo-Vaishnavite movement:
Sri Sri Madhabdev, the distinguished disciple of Srimanta Sankardev, whose literary and devotional contributions — including the Naam Ghosa and Borgeets — have profoundly shaped Assamese identity and spirituality.
Mahapurush Haridev, a pioneering spiritual teacher, who advanced the ideals of Ekasarana Dharma and established Sattras as vital centers for learning, devotion, and cultural growth.
